Our bed and breakfast in Woodstock/Quechee, Vermont, celebrated the Martin Luther King holiday with amazing winter weather and fantastic guests. Camaraderie was great, temeratures were in the 40's outside, sunny days and even some snow! Guests enjoyed skiing at Suicide Six in Pomfret, VT, sledding down Mt. Tom in Woodstock, and they observed fine glassblowing at Simon Pearce here in Quechee. They shopped and dined and spent time with our Inn critters - Jackson and Chadwick, our two horses, Buddyweiser and Sophie, our dogs and Mr. B, the African-Grey Parrot. For me, the highlight of the weekend was to spend time with two of my grandchildren, Skylar and Kassidy. We went on a horse-drawn sleigh ride at Sugarbush Farm in Pomfret. The two draft horses, Jay and Jim, pulled our sleigh through the magnificent, snow-covered woods. We crossed streams, travelled down logging roads, climbed hills and rode past sugar houses and tons of sap lines. We wrapped ourselves in warm blankets and enjoyed listening to Vermont tales from Larry Luce, owner and driver of the horse team. The woods were quiet, peaceful and serene. Larry even let my youngest granddaughter, Kassidy, hold the reins and drive the team. As we quietly sledded through the forest, we munched on delicious Sugarbush Farm cheese, maple popcorn and hot-chocolate. At the conclusion of the ride, we sampled more Vermont goodies in the tasting room and gift shop at the farm. What a great afternoon! I will highly recommend this outing to all my B&B guests! Thank you Larry and Betsy, Jay and Jim.
